I was sold on the video for Rilo Kiley’s “Emotional” when The Hairpin described it as sounding kinda like More Adventurous, but then I saw that there was “creepy footage of amusement parks from the ’50s” and yeah that’s awesome. (via the hairpin)
Maybe next year I’ll be something better /

The lead singer of this band is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and you should all listen to this song asap and then download it here.
Rilo Kiley — “Pictures of Success” from Take Offs and Landings
I’m a modern girl/but I fold in half so easily
All of the women I know who love Rilo Kiley love this song. This song is not only the heart of Take Offs and Landings but the heart of something that inspires fierce loyalty to Rilo Kiley and specifically Jenny Lewis.
This is my favorite Rilo Kiley song and I’ve scrawled the above lyrics in notebooks since I first heard it. Actually, I’m pretty sure I immediately wrote those lyrics down the first time I heard them. And it’s got a bunch of other great lines like that one about how Mexico can fucking wait and how California’s a recipe for a black hole, plus the instrumental intro is so great and I love how it starts out so quietly and then builds to about the 4-minute mark and oh man, the horns. All songs should include horns.
Song of the Day
We caught this band last night opening for Dr. Frank and the whole time we’re like, “Man, that dude sounds like the dude from House Boat.” So then we saw pop punk celebrity, Mikey Erg, and we were all, “Yo Mikey, is that the dude from House Boat?” And he was all, “Yeah, it’s the dude from House Boat.” So we guess it’s the dude from House Boat. So check out Science Police. It’s the dude from House Boat.
Hey look, someone else that’s not me told you to listen to Science Police, so do it!
Two things you should go to:
- The Unlovables show at Knitting Factory tomorrow night
- House Boat show at Lulu’s Friday night
I am my boyfriend’s one-woman street team, y’all. But seriously, both will be great.

Also while we’re on the subject of bands, check out SSB, but alsoooo (one of) my boyfriend’s band(s) Science Police just released a 7”/digital download and House Boat (another band Joe’s in) is playing tomorrow night at Death by Audio in Brooklyn.
Every thug needs a lay-dayyyyy!
And every thug needs a down ass bitch. Unh!
I’ve been mostly listening to music on my phone these days and I’m never home enough lately to be using my computer all that often, so this is my 2-track-long “Recently Played” list on iTunes. I feel like it says a lot about my life.
This is adorable. (via laughing squid)
Ugh! Why am I going to be in Portland that night! Love you 4evs, Kris Roe.
“Repeat Chorus twice, drink heavily for 6 months, repeat Chorus again”
GOING TO MAINE THIS WEEKEND HECK YES.
I don’t like Spotify (mainly because ew the gray and green is just aesthetically terrible), but I redownloaded it anyway because streaming songs whatever and now I think maybe it would hilarious to just listen to the same random song over and over and see if any of my Facebook friends notice. All I’ve listened to so far is Mxpx’s “Chick Magnet,” so maybe that should be the song? That would be appropriately random, right?
My new favorite neighbors, who call themselves “Those Guys” at karaoke, sang Taking Back Sunday’s “Make Damn Sure” and I screamed “CAN I JOIN YOU?! I’ve seen TBS live like 5 times!!” and they said yes so I did and it was awesome. Also sang Everclear’s “Father of Mine” in honor of Father’s Day.
