A few weeks ago, I went to Florida for Spring Training and saw the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen in baseball: a tie! I also saw a palm tree that was my height(ish) on the beach in Sarasota and walked around Ybor City, where Chloe and I found the greatest bar in the world (this bar had: indoor palm trees, a ***free*** jukebox with a bunch of great albums including The Hold Steady’s Stay Postive, a bunch of board games, fantastic pizza and beer selection, a globe collection and, best of all, a CAT) and a super cute coffee shop with a strawberry and white chocolate latte.
Right before that, J visited from LA and we had a karaoke night like we haven’t in a long, long time.
And also included above are a photo of Emily in her favorite spot on the kitchen windowsill and one of Joe flying a kite in the park from last Saturday. It was chilly, but we got hot apple cider and cider doughnuts at the farmer’s market!
The best thing about volunteering at Housing Works (aside from everything because I love it) is free drinks, free events, free wifi.
Saturday night, House Boat is playing at The Gutter. It was so much fun when Science Police played, I definitely recommend you come drink, dance and bowl with us.
It was heartbreaking taking the cats over to my new apartment. They made the saddest little sobs/meows the whole walk over in their carrier. Then their first night there (my second), they escaped out the window and hung out in the backyard (hah! not really) area of the building for about an hour while I tried to coax them back inside. Now I think they’re starting to like their new home. It’s gonna suck when my cousin gets back from Texas and wants them back.
I’m moving before the end of the month and this weekend I broke the last of a set of six Ikea glasses I bought when I first moved into this apartment three years ago. I also went to Coney Island and saw a quesadilla wrapped in a t-shirt thrown into a crowd at a minor league baseball game.
This has been the longest week. I can’t wait to get home from work tonight and just watch The O.C. with my sister.
Last weekend I was talking to my friend about moving. He’s going to LA this summer and I’ve been thinking about Chicago. Then today I walked around alone, which I haven’t had time to do lately and remembered why I want to stay here forever.
I requested “Call Me Maybe” at karaoke, so hopefully I can sing it next weekend. I didn’t sing tonight, but instead had some Beam (pictured) and watched that chick from Baylor “who can dunk!” not get into a fight. I was disappointed.
Also, I went to a party tonight for Housing Works volunteers. Have I mentioned that I’ve been volunteering in the cafe at HW Bookstore on here? I feel like no. Anyway, it’s really awesome and any of you in the NYC-area should look into becoming a volunteer! It’s a good cause (helping people with HIV/AIDS), it’s only a few hours every week (4 hours or more), you can learn cool things (like how to make a latte!) and you meet so many cool people. Also, they have a lot of cool events (I’ve been to a reading, a concert and a movie screening at the bookstore) and a bunch of thrift stores around the city (my sister volunteers at one of them). And I just want you guys to know, since I’m never overly promotional on this blog (am I?? I hope not!), I’m serious about this.
This weekend: carried lots of heavy things, walked around Cambridge wishing I could afford a whole house, hated on Boston a lot, got tots and a cherry coke float at Sonic, jammed (jammed?) to The Hold Steady on Route 17 and accidentally followed the wrong U-Haul for a few blocks.
